OK, we have had a garden of some sort at all of our past homes. Some were amazing and gave us WAY to many jalapeno peppers, some were just a pot or two on the porch with a tomato plant. Either way we have tried to grow something. I have wanted, for the past four years to get a great big garden growing here, but because of time and necessary assistance it has taken this long.

Even though we have almost 7 acres here, much of it is either horse pasture or overgrown with wildness. I had some specific areas that I wanted to make the garden. Last year John hired a friend to create the chicken coop and garden for me. The fence around and above the garden and coop is necessary to keep the deer, coyotes, eagles and raccoon’s out.

So once the fence was placed I could begin. The area is on a pretty steep slant so it would have been necessary to create boxes to level the ground.

And then I discovered Straw Bale gardening http://strawbalegardens.com/faqs/2-why-straw-bale-gardening.

I purchased Joel Karsten’s book, found a farmer in Spokane that had straw bales and the rest is history or soon to be.

For the next few months I am going to document my version of the garden. I am hoping. of course, for success. I am hoping to have so many veggys that I will be calling my local friends to come and get some. I am hoping to be canning. Let’s see if it happens.
